Certified NRA Instructor Series

Ironsights Academy offers pathways to becoming a Certified NRA Instructor. Below, we will describe the pathway toward your chosen instructor discipline.

STEP 1: Basic Instructor Training (BIT)

All students who wish to become a Certified NRA Instructor must start by taking the Basic Instructor Training Course (BIT). In this course you will learn how to teach an NRA training course including effective teaching methodology, safety procedures, and how to set up NRA courses through the NRA portal. This course is good for 5 years so if you have completed it within the last five years, you are good to move on to STEP 2.

STEP 2: NRA Basics Class (Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun/CCW, Etc.)

All instructor candidates must have completed the NRA Basics course for their chosen discipline. For example, to become a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor you must have completed the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course to start. Students who have already completed this course through Ironsights Academy or any other NRA instructor are good to move to STEP 3.

STEP 3: NRA Instructor Class (Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun/CCW, Etc.)

The last step in the process. Once you have completed BIT and the Basics class for your chosen discipline, you are ready to take the Instructor Class. Upon completion of the Instructor class and passing the shooting qualification, you will be a Certified NRA Instructor in that discipline and may begin teaching the Basics classes for your chosen discipline.
