Description:     The NRA Basics of Shotgun Course (Instructor-Led) introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for owning and using a shotgun safely.

In this course we will cover basic firearms safety, fundamentals of shotgun shooting, ammunition components, malfunctions, and we will review the core elements of modern shotguns. We will practice loading, unloading, recognizing and clearing malfunctions, proper grip and shooting stance, aiming, and trigger techniques.

Then we’ll head out to the range and put these principles in action.

  • NRA Guide to the Basics of Shotgun Shooting Handbook

  • NRA Marksman Qualification Program Packet

  • NRA Gun Safety Rules Card

  • Range Time & Targets

  • Certificate of Completion

Registration must be completed and payment made in full for all courses.  Course fees are non-refundable*. 

*Courses are subject to cancellation based on enrollment/range issues.  In the event of cancellation, refunds will be issued.

Required Equipment:                   

  • Ear protection (electronic recommended)

  • Eye protection

  • Shotgun

    • MUST be legal in New Jersey

  • Ammunition, please bring your own.

    • No reloads or handloads allowed.

    • If you are using one of our firearms, you must use our ammunition and there will be an extra charge (Cash or Credit Card Payment On-Site), please contact jeff@ironsightsacademy.net for an estimated cost based on the selected caliber and current ammunition prices.
